The Fast of Yaum Al-Ithnayn

I’m sure everyone knows about this hadith, it goes like this;
Book 006, Number 2606: sahih al-muslim |
Abu Qatada Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah’s Massenger (may peace be upon him) was asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said: It is (the day) when I was born and revelation was sent down to me. similarly reported in hadith no:2603 |
The reason for posting this is quite simple. I was sitting at home earlier this evening watching Unity Tv. There was a live call in programme on the subject of seerat un nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم . There were three liars posing as very learned scholars, and there were questions coming in about mawlid etc.
They were up to their usual tricks denying the permissibility, but that didn’t bother me ‘coz it’s a trend amongst people of their background. Anyway, one bloke phoned in and commented that there is a difference of opinion about what should be done and what shouldn’t be done, but there is unanimous agreement that there is a significance on this day seeing as our prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم always fasted on mondays and when asked why? he replied that it was the day on which he was born.
The presenter jumped up and screamed out that he had never heard of such a hadith, as far as he knew it wasn’t in bukhari, muslim, an-nasa’i, abu dawud, tirmidhi or ibne majah. He then asked his guests (one of which is supposed to be highly learned) whether any of them had any knowledge of such a hadith………….they both blatantly denied. Even the salafies accept this hadith regardless of how they interpret it. And these guys claiming to be the real ahlus sunnah of the sub-continent………………i don’t know!!
My wife and I sat there for over five minutes speechless, how could these so-called alims do such a thing, i mean we know there is disagreement over the practice of the blessed mawlid but to hide and deny that a hadith exists….???? This is the state we are in today. Al-I’yadhubillah. May allah guide them and us to all that is good. Ya Allah Al-Madad, Ya Rasul Allah Al-Madad, Ya Ghausul Azam Al-Madad. Ameen.
