Shaykh Al-Yaqoubi…Brum Apr’07
Posted by Abd Al Mustafa on Wednesday 11th April, 2007
What a character, what a personality! shaykh yaqoubi is an outstanding scholar of ahlus sunnah. he has captured my heart. I yearn for his next suhba, darse, lecture.
we witnessed this weekend, sunnies, deobundies & salafies all under one roof taking lessons from this great person. Nobody cared where they were or who was sitting next to them, all that mattered was that they were in the company of shaykh.
I was sat in the front, second or third row from shaykh most of the time throughout the 4 day darse. It felt like i was hearing the holy prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم being described by a person who had actually met and seen him صلي الله عليه و سلم personally.
shaykh started the darse by informing the gathering of how past scholars have always been competing in writing translations and commentaries of the shamail al-muhammadiya/nabawiyya of imam at-tirmidhi. And how scholars have said that, if you haven’t been fortunate enough in meeting our beloved prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم personally, you should definitely read the shamail.
Those wishing to see the prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم in their dreams should not forget to read this book, with sincere intentions and total concentration.
“no matter how much the poet’s exaggerate in their praises of him, it still will never reach the actual status and high rank of the beloved messenger of allah صلي الله عليه و سلم” shaykh stated.
shaykh al-yaqoubi went through this magnificent book which contains over 400 hadith. the book starts with the chapter of how the beloved messenger of allah صلي الله عليه و سلم looked, his physical attributes………….and ended with the chapter which is about seeing him, our beloved صلي الله عليه و سلم in our dreams.
shaykh indicated that, this was an indication from imam tirmidhi that you will see the prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم in your dreams by the time you finish reading/reciting the book. your thoughts, intentions must be pure though, as it does not apply to everyone.
Attending this darse made me feel & see the difference between reading hadith by ones self and reading hadith with a teacher, it is something all salafi’s should look into. there were a few hadith that came up which i had read before, but reading them again with a teacher showed me how i erred in the understanding of those hadiths. subhanallah! allahu akbar!
shaykh also mentioned a few aqida issues namely, Isthigatha (beseeching rasulullah صلي الله عليه و سلم for help), the fact that the holy prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم was NOOR. shaykh said that, the wahabi’s of saudi (yes, he specifically uttered the words wahabi’s of saudi) have problem with the beseeching to dead people, but the beloved prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم is not dead! he is alive and there is blood pumping through his veins right now. he also expressed his belief that the souls of the prophets and awliya do travel out of their graves and do come to the aid of certain people on certain instances.
“don’t you think that he can come out of his grave and help you if he wants to..? off course he can” words of shaykh al-yaqoubi.
shaykh stated that; when someone see’s the beloved prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم whether in a dream or wakeful state, it is indeed him in his true form as the shaytan cannot come in his form nor can he even say that he is the prophet صلي الله عليه و سلم (ie. come in the form of someone else and say that he was the prophet).
shaykh al-yaqoubi mentioned something which should be paid special attention to. he said; if anyone check’s the original copies of bukhari or the first few copies, they will see that Imam Bukhari added Alaihis Salaam after the names of all the ahl al bayt (ie. sayyidah fatima عليه سلم and sayyidina hussain عليه سلم etc) It is in the later copies that this was changed to Radi Allahu Anh.
there are numerous ahadith that mention that allah has forgiven the past and future sins of sayyidina rasoolullah صلي الله عليه و سلم , but shaykh explained that this is a metaphor and should not be understood literally, because he has no sins.
read the shama’il here.
shaykh also explained the mis-understanding of one of the explanations of a hadith by shaykh al-akbar ibn arabi (r.a.), the hadith is about how the sinful believers in the hell-fire will be so much in yearning to go to heaven, that they will not feel the actual punishment they are being given. they will be punished, burning in the fire but they will be so intoxicate with their yearning for jannah and wanting to go to jannah and the love of going to heaven eventually that they will not notice the pain that they are in. shaykh al-akbar explained this in the language of tasawwuf, but due to literalist translators (salafi translators) it was interpreted as ” the sinful believers (in the hell-fire) will not be punished “.
I can go on and on but i’m falling asleep so i’ll just end this post with something the shaykh said; the holy kaba is the second holiest place, the first is ar-rawdha al-mubarak of our beloved صلي الله عليه و سلم in al-madina. shaykh also stated that if you commit insult towards the prophet, you will get nowhere with allah. Allah will not forgive you, you need to go to the person who you insulted.
I could go on to say that shaykh said that the deobandi’s were evil, but i won’t stoop as low as that basair guy by filling my blog up with lies, deceit, fitna and hatred.
special thanx to all the brothers and shaykhs who organised the event, they made everyone feel very welcome. there were people at the darse from outside brum and they made sure that everyone was well looked after and fed at the end, including the locals.
sadly, i missed out on the food. lol! I was running backwards and forwards from work – home – darse – work – home – and back to darse. i couldn’t hang around to eat.
shaykh inspiring the gathering to recite salawat
