Hadrat Shaykh Qutb al-Din Ahmad ibn ‘Abd al-Rahim Rahmatullahi alayh, popularly known as Shah Wali Allah, lived at a critical juncture of Muslim history. India had enjoyed the peaceful and prosperous rule of the Mughals for more than 200 years, but by the time of Shah Wali Allah Rahmatullahi alayh, mutually hostile principalities had begun to emerge. Many of the newly emerging quasi independent states were the result of the rising influence of the militant Maratha, Sikh and Hindu communities and Muslim power and glory in the sub-continent, as in other parts of the world, were gradually eroded. It was at this time of utter despair and despondency for Muslims that Shah Wali Allah Rahmatullahi alayh was born…….[read on]

Shah Abdul Aziz; ‘The Sun of India’ the eldest son of Shah Waliullah was only 17 years old when Shah Waliullah died. After the death of Shah Waliullah, his son, Shah Abdul Aziz gradually became an outstanding figure among the Indian Muslims. Shah Abdul Aziz, having completed his necessary education assumed the responsibility of the principalship of the Madrash Rahimiya (Delhi). Thereafter, Shah Abdul Aziz devoted his life to teaching, to spiritual guidance, to delivering sermons and to writing books. Every Tuesday and Friday, he used to give public sermons on the premises of the Madrasah which was attended by Muslims and non-Muslims both. The Madrasah was a centre of traditional Islamic learning. As was the custom in those days, he started his education at the age of five with the study of Holy Quran. Every biographer of Shah Abdul Aziz seems to have agreed that he finished his education in Tafsir, Hadith, sarf (accidence), Nahw (Syntax), Fiqh, Usul-i-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence), Mantiq (logic), Kalam and Aqaid (theology), Astronomy and Mathematics at the age of about fifteen years. He was taught especially by his father and by two of his father’s disciples, Shah Muhammad Ashiq and Khwajah Aminullah. His father held authority (ijazah) in all four existing mystic orders, the Naqshbandi, the Qadiri, the Suhrawardi and the Chisthti. Shah Abdul Aziz too obtained such Ijazah in all these orders from his father. He was also a poet of high merit and used to write poems and Ghazals……..[continue reading]

It looks like it’s about a mile away, but it’s only a couple of minutes walk. Near that particular hotel, the whole area is full of bangladeshi workers, bangladeshi shops and restaurants. A mini bangla town, but sadly there was only one sylheti chap i came across. The road is directly in line with gate no.1 the king abdul aziz gate. On the right the cream and brown coloured building is a shopping centre above which are the hilton towers.
On the left where you can see construction work being carried out is part of the zam zam towers i think, which is also directly in front of gate no.1 and the female toilets entrance. The picture is obviously quite old but when i was there in july ’07 the complex was about 98% complete. Appartments being sold for £84k.

The House of Sayyida Khadija was rediscovered during the Haram extensions in 1989, then hurriedly covered over so as to obliterate any trace. This was the house where the Prophet Muhammad (saw) received some of his first revelations and it is also where his children Umm Kulthum, Ruqqaya, Fatima, Zaynab, Qasim and ‘Abdullah were born. The House of Sayyida Khadija was located just outside Safa and Marwa and which now falls under the paved area. Above it, the Wahhabi hardliners have built public toilets(Naudhubillah).
In the late 1980s plans were Read the rest of this entry »
