New expansion to Masjid Al-Haram (makkah)

Posted by Abd Al Mustafa on Tuesday 29th January, 2008

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah approved the new expansion project earlier this month. The approval includes the acquisition of land and other properties, covering an area of 300,000 square meters. Special committees have begun estimating the value of real estate in the area and as many as 1,000 properties in the Shamiya and Shubaika areas will be demolished as part of the expansion project. The government has also allocated some SR6 billion to be paid in compensation for properties. Sources said the demolition of old buildings in the area would begin on March 9.

This is how the Haram is expected to look after it’s new extension. Subhanallah!

  1. oh! no! not so soon, and not shamiyah! the closest place you can stay to the haram sharif. literally, yards away. when i was at hajj this year the hotel staff told us that they were under the hammer for demolition, but i didn’t think it would be so soon. i thought i would atleast be able to stay in the same hotel if i managed to make the trip again for hajj 1429………….and i was definitely hoping to stay at golden makkah hotel (which is literally right opposite the UMRAH gate, 20 metres apart) if i could make the time for umrah in april.

Easy now fella! Have you become a shareholder in NAJDI International Plc?

Ever wondered what they have destroyed to go along with this expansion?

[Abd Al Mustafa] – woh! woh woh! hold your horses fella!!! i’m only reporting what i’ve come across. anywayz, the haram needs expansion. i welcome the expansions but not the destruction of holy historic sites. This new expansion has not started yet, but will knock down hotels and other businesses shown in the clip above to accomodate the expansion ie. markets, shops, restaurants etc etc.

SubhanAllah – Pilgrims will have more space inside the Great Mosque. I have seen a large number of pilgrims praying outside the mosque on roads.
Saudi Government deserve a lot of encouragement for this noble cause. Almight Allah may help them.

    AsSalam-o-alaikom All,

I just performed Omra a couple of days ago. The demolision is ongoing & I would say that 60% of the buildings do not exist.

Being a regular visitor to Makkah I would say it is just the right time. The last two years it was getting too crowded. The Northern & North Western areas were of narrow alleys and was easily clogged with dirty water.

I am a 100% for the expansion & making room for more visitors.

Thumbs up for the Saudi Government…may Allah guide & assist them with their noble endeavours.

    Ayman Fahmy

[Abd Al Mustafa] – it would be better to just say, “thumbs up to the expansions”

This new extension out side babul umrah was suppose to begin back in 1991 but due to world instability
the entire project was posponed till this day. Better late then never. Muslim ummah should feel proud
of SAUDI ruler’s and their entire denesty. Because it is they who have taken on board right from very
early stage to expand both mosques plus other relevent Mosques.far too many to name but mention few here.
    Masjid-e-Queba. Masjid e Queblatain. Masjid-e-tamim. masjid-e-khunduk. masjid-e-Aisha.masjid-e- Keif and
masjid-e- Namerah and many more together with new roads new Air Terminaland. AT Mina new fire resistent
heatproof tent with aircondition and ZAM-ZAM available throughout, same at Jamarat extension after extension
for the confirt and peace and safety of worshippers who come here from every corner of the world.
Please Make dua for the whole of Ummah to understand each other and stand side by side with each other
Lucky are Those who will get involved in the extensions work and get the reward of both the worlds.

An excellent news of new extension which will help Hajjis to stand in peace/tranquality under one roof.
It was very much needed and will be very much appriciated by Hajjis.
Our dua’s with each and every one who is involved with this huge project.

Away from Mosque area I would like to point out an area of improvement. All the Highways from Jeddah Airport to Makkah/Madinah should have better service facilities at short intervals due to large volume of Hajjis traveling throughout the year. Better parking/wash/food/prayer place for both Ladies & gentleman. I sincerely hope some contractors or Saudi Goverment takes an innitiative in this much needed project.
in mean time dua’s from everyone.

Do you ignorant people know that due to the Saudi’s inconsiderate and to be frank, selfish attempts to expand the surrounding areas of the haram, there hasn’t been any pure Zam Zam for since 1996. Keep supporting the Saudis and soon we may not have any Zam Zam at all.

They have no proper plans in place to preserve the Holy sites that are connected with pilgrimage. There is not even a proper sewage system.

I for one feel sick at what these extremist Saudis’ are doing to the entire land of Al Hijaz. May we all come out of such ignorance (as shown in the above posts). Ameen.

I performed Umra in May 2008 and the demolition work was in progress. I wished the residences of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique(RUTA) and Hazrat Umar which were fenced during the demolition had been preserved. Also in front of Babe Fahad Hazrat Khadija residence were fenced . Had it been reserved will be morvellous.

I really highly appreciate the expansion of Haram Sharif but the birth place of Hazrat Muhammad (SUAW) also requires attention. It needs some repair and attractions because i think it has been either ignored or over sighted. Please, please give it more attention.Tehmas Khan from Peshawar.

I would like to say that Haram is not owned by Saudis, It is belonging to all muslimsms, all ummah. Just think by keeping your hand on heart that after all this expansion , the great Kaaba will remain focus point of the place or not. We need to perform umrah and Hajj not stay in 5 or 7 star hotels. Why they are raising such buildings to earn more money?
    Shame for so called …
Well all the historic places must be retained first. Then any other expansion without having financial intersts.
    Thanks

have a detailed look at the projects. WE can’t say anything for Haram, its expansion is always a godd thing. As far as the towers around are concerned, consider all aspects first. There are mainly 3 major projects, the Abraj-al-Bait, the Jabl-Umar and the one the follws the Haram area after expansion on the shamiya side. Considering the fact that there will be a rise in pilgrims to about 6million in the next deacade, the residential facilities have to be considered. When you don’t build tall towers around Haram, you end up acommodating all those pilgrims to places as far as 20 kms from Masjid al Haram. Jabl Umar consists of a main railway station for train from Madinah and Jeddah. The Abraj al Bait has the main tower 5 which will house the clock, which will be running on a special atomic clock and showing the Makkah Time, not the GMT+3, +it will be having special loudspeakers for azan to be heard 7kms around the Haram. +Da’wah and Islamic Institutes and Libraries. The Shamiya side buildings will be purely residential. These will be built beyond the Haram building and the subsequent Haram Grounds. So, ultimately, the capacity of the Haram will end up being 10 million, yes. 10,000,000.

    Asalaam O Alaikum,

Mashallah, I am just back from Umrah 3 days ago, and the the expansion is in great progress. The Safa Marwah area has been really widened. Its huge now,the rows of Sa’ee are now double than before and they have made many floors for Sa’ee. However, I dont understand why are there no Air conditioning systems installed in the Sa’ee area.

Abraj Al Bait is under construction in which 4 towers are completed. Makkah Royal Clock Hotel tower is not completed yet, but has gained 65-70% height.

People are working 24/7. I wish the Saudi government best of luck and pray for them that their expansion project be complete soon.

    Allahuma Balagna Ramadhan… Ameen.

  21. I’ve seen tremendous changes going on in the reconstruction plan of the Masjidil Haram as well as the Masjidil Nabawi by the Saudi Government. These constructive efforts ought to supported by all the Muslims throughout the world as a symbol of UNITY & INTEGRITY.
I have performed my Haj in 1964 (brought along by my late grand father using ship at that time), second time in 2001 & the latest in 2008. From my experiences, the need to expand the two holy mosques in order to accomadate the rising number of the haj from years to years are really critical. Thanks for the effort done by the Saudi Government and as a true muslim, I supported it whole heartedly. God willing, we will be seeing the NEW Masjidil Haram in the near future and God willing also I planned to bring my wife/family again for our umrah or Haj.
Assalamualaikum to all my fellow muslim friends throughout the world.

first of all there is no such thing as king in islam secondly the prophet pbuh said anyone who does hajj for the sake of allah swt should not be made to pay for anything so lets not make the saudies out as some great people doing everyone a favour cos they are not they only using the hajis inflated prices for the expansion and if they are spending there own money then they are just making an investment
